Summary
We have an outstanding Contract to Hire position for a Structural Steel Fitter/Welderto join a leading Company located in theSt. Louis, MO surrounding area.
Seeking experienced Structural Steel Fitter /Welders to join our fabrication shop. This position is responsible for fitting, assembling, and welding structural and miscellaneous steel components in accordance with fabrication drawings and project requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working independently from shop drawings, laying out and fitting components, and producing quality welds in a fabrication shop environment.
Experience fabricating stairs, handrails, guardrails, and other miscellaneous metals is highly preferred, but not required.
Job Responsibilities:
+ Read and interpret structural steel and fabrication/shop drawings.
+ Lay out, fit, tack, and assemble structural and miscellaneous steel components.
+ Verify dimensions, orientation, hole locations, and overall fit prior to welding.
+ Perform FCAW welding using .052-inch wire.
+ Fabricate assemblies such as beams, columns, frames, supports, stairs, handrails, guardrails, and miscellaneous steel.
+ Use common fabrication tools including grinders, saws, torches, squares, levels, tape measures, clamps, and related equipment.
+ Check completed work for dimensional accuracy and weld quality.
+ Perform grinding , cleanup , and preparation of fabricated assemblies as required.
+ Follow established welding procedures, fabrication standards, and shop safety requirements.
+ Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
+ Coordinate with supervisors and other shop personnel to maintain production flow and quality.
Basic Hiring Criteria:
+ Ability to read and work from fabrication/shop drawings.
+ Ability to accurately use a tape measure and common layout tools.
+ Working knowledge of steel fabrication and fit-up practices.
+ Experience as a welder.
+ Ability to safely operate common fabrication-shop tools and equipment.
+ Ability to lift, position, and work around structural steel components in a shop environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with any of the following is a significant plus:
+ Stair fabrication
+ Handrail and guardrail fabrication
+ Miscellaneous metals
+ Stringers, landings, rails, posts, and related stair components
+ Architectural or exposed miscellaneous steel
+ Structural steel fabrication
+ Candidates with strong stair and handrail fitting experience (steel or wood) should receive particular consideration.
