Maintenance Worker- Part-Time
Summary
Seasonal Park Maintenance workers performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance or Parks and Recreation grounds and facilities.
Maintains parks and public green spaces including Forest / Llewellyn Cemetery. Operate mowers, tractor and other small equipment and tools necessary for the mowing and trimming of grass, pruning of trees and shrubs, planting and mulching of flower beds.
Maintains assigned motor equipment and automotive vehicles with regard to fueling, routine maintenance, and most light to moderate mechanical repairs. Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
Responds water leaks, plugged toilets, vandalism and other issues with the various amenities associated with the parks and recreation grounds.
Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of parks' amenities and fixtures including restrooms. Collects and of disposes of trash from buildings and grounds. Inspects facilities for hazards and notifies supervisor of any problems.
Performs semiskilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other semiskilled trades work.
Responsibilities
Performs other duties as assigned to assist with the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department programs and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. Performing General Physical Activities - Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. The employee frequently is required to walk, stand and talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the mechanical and building trades. Knowledge of the materials, methods, practices, machinery, tools, and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance. Knowledge of Kirksville city geography. Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral instructions; ability to communicate orally; ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to walk and stand for long periods of time and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse weather conditions; ability to work closely with others as a cooperative team; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, and the public.
Experience Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older. Possession of a valid Missouri Class "F" motor vehicle operator's license; personal motor vehicle liability insurance. Failure to maintain required licenses or certification is cause for suspension or termination.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two years' experience in related field (carpentry, general mechanics). Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
